In the race to offer greener and cleaner alternatives for the asphalt industry, the USDA stamps three new rejuvenation products from Colorbiotics with its difficult-to-attain “BioPreffered” seal of approval.
The push for more environmentally sustainable solutions within the asphalt industry received three new tools this week. The USDA granted “BioPreferred” status on Colorbiotics’ Invigorate Additive and Invigorate Topical, utilized in both asphalt application and reclamation projects, as well as, Peak 301, a sprayed-on rejuvenator and protectant for asphalt shingles.
Pioneered at Iowa State University in 2019, technology was further developed by Colorbiotics to commercialize the versatile soybean as not only better for the environment, but also an economic opportunity.
“We are committed to products that are good for the planet and even better for the bottom line,” said Austin Hohmann, product manager at Colorbiotics. “Using soybeans and other natural ingredients, we plan to continue innovating in more applications to give our customers and partners an environmentally friendly competitive advantage.”
For a product to receive this label, it must be submitted for review and certified through a federal program to ensure that it is wholly or substantially comprised of biological matter. Its goal is to increase the use of biobased products in the U.S., boost economic development, reduce the country’s petroleum dependence, instead relying on sustainable agricultural resources to decrease adverse environmental and health impacts.
“We’re excited to get this stamp of approval from the USDA because it really hammers home the concept of green chemistry used within Colorbiotics,” said Hohmann. The USDA Certified Biobased Product label makes it easier for consumers to identify biobased products
